2017-18 Season Overview

Our 49th Season!

Love, Laughter, Loss, Seduction, Revenge, Courage & A lot of Champagne!

Die Fledermaus
by Johann Strauss, Jr.

October 27, 2017, 7:30PM
October 29, 2017, 2:00PM
Reineke Festival Concert Hall, NDSU

Waltzes as intoxicating as champagne abound  at Prince Orlofsky's masked-ball, where elaborate plots are uncorked and romantic entanglements go astray.  At the center of it all is suave and charming Dr. von Eisenstein, blissfully unaware that the saucy & mysterious Hungarian countess he is wooing is actually his wife, Rosalinde.  By daybreak, the party guests find themselves at the city jail, where the Eisenstein's rekindle their mutual passion and everyone is free to leave, following a final chorus of course - in honor of champagne.

Alcina
by G. F. Handel

February 9, 2018, 7:30PM
February 11, 2018, 2:00PM

Quite possibly Handel's most magnificent opera, Alcina is filled with extraordinary musical riches & a lot of magnificent magic.  Two exceptional women lie at the heart of the story:  Alcina is a potent sorceress, which Bradamante counters with her self-confidence and determination on her quest to rescue her lover Ruggiero from Alcina's spells.  If she succeeds, they will escape and no doubt live happily ever after.  However, if not, Ruggiero will be transformed into the newest trophy in Alcina's enormous gallery of former lovers.  Which will it be?  Can he resist her magic?

     Fargo-Moorhead Premiere
 Soldier Songs
  by David T. Little

  April 6, 2018, 7:30PM
  April 8, 2018, 2:00PM

Gripping & realistic, Solder Songs  traces the shift in perception of war  from the age of 6 to the age of 66.  Follow the lead character through the  phases of life from boy to man:  playing violent video games as a boy, enlisting & serving in the military, dealing with the real-life horrors of war & later in life dealing with the real-life horrors of war - becoming a father whose worst fears are realized with the news of the death of his son.  Adapted from interviews with veterans of five wars, this opera theater experience explores the ideas versus the realities of the Soldier, the exploration of and exploitation of innocence along with the "seemingly impossible" of expressing the truth of war.

This production has adult themes - not suggested for young children
