<image:title>Home (Copy) - Announcing our new General Director, Curt Olds</image:title>
<image:caption>After a national search, Curt Olds has been named the new General Director of Fargo-Moorhead Opera. Olds succeeds David Hamilton, who recently concluded 25+ years of leadership at the end of the 2022-2023 season. Olds is the 3rd General Director in the 55-year history of FM Opera and brings 25 years of experience as an executive & artistic director in all aspects of arts management with specific focus in opera & musical theatre. “We are extremely excited to have Curt Olds named as General Director of the Fargo Moorhead Opera. Curt’s energy, connections, talent, and vision will bring FM Opera to the next level and ensure the success of the organization for years to come,” states Karin Rudd, FM Opera Board Member and Chair of the recent search committee. Prior to joining FM Opera, Olds worked extensively as an arts leader and performer, appearing at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and on Broadway. He has been seen with New York City Opera, Atlanta Opera, and many other opera and musical theatre companies across the country. He currently serves as Director of Artistic Planning for Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre and is the Managing Director/Founder of Black Tie Broadway, a symphonic pops and special events company which creates productions and content for performing arts organizations around the world. He has also previously served as Manager/Vice President of Concert and Special Projects at ADA Artist Management in New York City representing 80+ clients. He holds master’s degrees in both vocal performance with distinction from New England Conservatory and a bachelor’s degree from University of Montana. UM just honored him as the 2023 Odyssey Distinguished Alumnus Recipient. He was also a Fellow in the Professional Development Program at the Kennedy Center/BAM’s DeVos Institute. “FM Opera is among a very important group of opera companies developing a national presence from a more remote location,” said Olds. “Operas and musicals of the highest quality are being produced in cities like Fargo, far beyond the major markets, and are catching national attention. I look forward to building on the excellent legacy of David Hamilton and I am thrilled to join the exciting energy here. I grew up in Montana and I am very thankful to the search committee and staff for giving me this opportunity to join the momentum and come home to the midwest. I look forward to wonderful things together.” Olds starts officially with FM Opera on September 11th and audiences will have the opportunity to meet him at the 55th Anniversary Celebration Concert Saturday, October 28th at Reineke Concert Hall which kicks off his tenure with FM Opera.</image:caption>

<image:title>A Tribute to Three Tenors - Anthony Ciaramitaro</image:title>
<image:caption>Tenor Anthony Ciaramitaro is drawing attention for his incisive Italianate sound, nuanced phrasing and captivating stage presence. He has garnered acclaim for his recent role debuts as Rodolfo in La Bohème with Opera North and Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Opera Narodowa. In previous seasons, Mr. Ciaramitaro included debuts in the title role of Don Carlo with The Royal Danish Opera, Rodolfo in Luisa Miller at Opéra de Tours, Lt. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Teatro Municipal de Santiago and Opera Philadelphia, Faust in Boito’s Mefistofele at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Alfredo Germont in La traviata at the Macerata Opera Festival, Ismaele in Nabucco at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Cassio in Otello at the Los Angeles Opera, Fenton in Falstaff at Palm Beach Opera, and the demanding role of Giorgio in Ricky Ian Gordon’s world premiere of The Garden of the Finzi-Continis with New York City Opera. In competition, Mr. Ciaramitaro won the 4th Official Prize, the Placido Domingo Tenor Prize, and the Verdi Special Prize at the 60th Tenor Viñas Competition, the CulturArte Prize at Operalia 2022, 2nd place at the 2022 Butler Opera International Vocal Competition, 3rd place in the 2022 Lorhen L. Zachary National Vocal Competition, and 2nd place in the 2021 Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition. Mr. Ciaramitaro was a former Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist at Los Angeles Opera, where he performed Il Messaggero in Aïda, Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser, Ruiz in Il Trovatore, and Lord Cecil in Roberto Devereux. He was an inaugural member of the Renée Fleming Fellowship at Aspen Music Festival and has appeared as an Apprentice Artist with the Santa Fe Opera, an Apprentice Artist with the Palm Beach Opera, a Studio Artist with Arizona Opera, and a member of the Merola Opera Program.</image:caption>

<image:title>A Tribute to Three Tenors - Joshua Kohl</image:title>
<image:caption>American tenor Joshua Kohl has been hailed for his “firm technique and dynamic phrasing" (The Baltimore Sun) and for his “strong, ringing” tone (The Washington Post). Praise for the recently released recording of Franck’s Hulda continues to roll in, but critics have been effusive: “Kohl may well be the finest singer in the opera and thus the greatest vocal strength on this recording” (MusicWeb International). This powerful and engaging artist begins the 2021-2022 season — his fifth as a member of the ensemble at Theater Freiburg — with a role debut as Des Grieux in Manon, followed by a new production of Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton) and another role debut as Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress (postponed to a future season due to the pandemic).</image:caption>

<image:title>A Tribute to Three Tenors - Luke Norvell</image:title>
<image:caption>A gifted tenor, Mr. Norvell has been recognized for his "dramatic intensity and evenness of line, along with a big-house sense of amplitude" (Parterre Box). In the summer of 2025, Mr. Norvell sang selections of Tosca for the Princeton Festival and joined the prestigious Internationale Meistersinger Akademie in Germany. In an exciting 2025-2026 season, he will sing in Opera Roanoke's opening Gala concert, make his role and house début with Sarasota Opera as Ferrando in Così fan tutte, make his Canadian début, covering the Duke in Rigoletto with Canadian Opera Company, and will sing Rodolfo in La Bohème with The Grange Festival. In addition, Mr. Norvell will appear as a soloist in concerts with the Philadelphia Youth Symphony Chorus, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, and Fairfield County Chorale. Last season, Norvell performed the title role of Faust at AVA, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with Opera Roanoke, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte in Philadelphia, Mozart’s Requiem at the Irvine Memorial Chapel, and the world premiere of Derrick Wang’s Fearless with Opera Delaware. While at AVA, he performed Alfredo in La Traviata, Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Lensky in Eugene Onegin, and Duca in Rigoletto (Act 3). He also performed the title role in Werther (Act 3) with Opera Philadelphia, as well as joined Utah Festival Opera as Rinuccio in a double bill of Gianni Schicchi and Buoso's Ghost, and as the tenor soloist in Verdi’s Messa di Requiem.</image:caption>

<image:title>Sponsorship - Il Tabarro</image:title>
<image:caption>From the genius behind La Bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly comes Puccini’s gripping one-act masterpiece of passion and betrayal. Set aboard a barge on the dark waters of the Seine, Il Tabarro (The Cloak) simmers with jealousy, longing, and fatal secrets. With its brooding atmosphere and sweeping score, this rarely performed gem offers a raw, emotional punch. Presented in special collaboration with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, this emotionally charged production showcases Puccini’s lush orchestration and dramatic power—and marks the completion of FM Opera’s journey through Il Trittico, following Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi nearly a decade ago.</image:caption>
